Ernie Smyth Memorial – Final Year

The Ernie Smyth Memorial Competition began in 1986, following Ernie’s death from cancer at the age of 54 in December 1985.

Leslie Warren presented the trophy to Tandragee Club, on behalf of the family.

As Ernie and his wife, Elizabeth, could be seen out playing golf most summer evenings and they enjoyed mixed competitions it was important the competition in his memory should include both men and women. An innovative competition, a team of three men and one woman, was agreed.

The competition was sponsored by a number of businesses over the years and by the family for the past 12 years. 2015 will be the 30th year of the competition and Ernie’s family have decided it is time to end the memorial competition.

It is hoped those golfers who have played in the competition in previous years will play once again along with those who faithfully have played every year to make the final year one to remember.

More details on the competition scheduled for 16th August, including online tee bookings and prizes will be published in due course.
