Tandragee Telegraph Edition 4

Course Report – 18 Hole Course Opens!
Following an interesting winter to say the least, we are delighted to open the full summer course for play with exception of the winter 15th and the tee boxes. This will enable new members to play with a view to obtaining a handicap.

For those who played during the winter, I’m sure you’d agree apart from the obvious temperatures of -15 and an extended covering of snow, the course stood up well and we were able to keep most greens open and playable. Eugene Weir (head green keeper) was delighted with the weather they got for hollow-coring the greens. This has already made an improvement to the surfaces. Over a ton of sand was spread on each green. Contrary to common belief it is better not to fill the holes completely with sand. This allows the air to flow through the greens.

The next few weeks will be spent spraying for leather jackets etc. preparing the tee boxes and dressing them for the season. The greens will be cut lower weather permitting. General course maintenance included shaping of fairways and rough and removal of stumps from area behind 11the tee. This work was carried out to allow the air and sun to dry up the wet areas on 7th fairway and rough. During the past month the green staff have been servicing all our machines and cutters. This saves the Club a considerable amount of money, and may explain to some why they were about the greens shed during the days.

Various other subjects were discussed at the Greens Meeting on 10March 2011 and these will be brought to the Council for consideration on 22 March. These will be reported on in the next edition.

Sponsorship Prospectus Now Available – Can you Help?
We have produced a 2011/12 sponsorship prospectus to begin the process of securing new and existing sponsors for the club and various competitions throughout the season. A number of course positions have been identified as ideal for partner branding and these include the putting green, the 1st tee box and the tee boxes of all par 3’s on the course. To this end, we have secured sponsorship for the putting green and have an action plan in place to seek appropriate sponsors for the afore mentioned areas.

A number of competitions throughout the season have sponsors also and we hope to increase these over the coming weeks and months. Sponsors at Tandragee Golf Club are able to benefit from brand placement opportunities to over 800 members & 8,000 visitors, press coverage, their own Corporate Golf Day, use of restaurant and lounge facilities and an invitation to the sponsors open day.

We would encourage all our members to consider if they know anyone who may be interested in a sponsorship opportunity by contacting Sponsorship Convener Michael Lyons on 07949 518 551 or [email protected] Michael has copies of the prospectus and can outline the range of available opportunities that start from £299+vat
