MEMBERS AND VISITORS NOTICE

ULSTER CARPETS JOHNSTON SHIELD 2018

QUALIFYING ROUNDS
Changes to the rules last year will continue for this year’s competition.

This year’s Johnston Shield qualifying period will be played as “Fourball Aggregate Stableford”.

The qualifying period will run for 6 weeks commencing Saturday 13th January 2018 and finishing on Friday 23rd February 2018. The entry fee will be £20 per pair.

The competition shall be played over a 12 hole winter course. Each player will receive 2/3 Handicap allowance. The best 4 from 6 cards total will determined which pairs will go through to the matchplay stage. A league table with each pair’s aggregate scores will be published each Friday evening.

Players are not required to play together, however will require a marker, independent of their partner. Each Player must insert the name of their partner on their score card, a system previously used successfully in Council Cup qualifying. The computer must be used for returning scores with cards returned in the wooden box.

Players are permitted to choose any day of the week on which to return their weekly scores, their names must be entered in the relevant entry sheet in the pro shop before commencing play.
Scores must be returned on a green coloured Johnston Shield score card.

The match and handicap committee will decide how many pairs enter the match play stage following entry uptake, with the top 16 qualifiers receiving a bye into the 2nd round.

Ties at the completion of the qualifying period shall be broken by taking the best of the worst counting weekly score. Should pairs still be tied, the better of the worst 2 counting scores shall be taken and so on until the tie is broken.

It is the player’s responsibility to ensure that their cards have been correctly completed, having the correct handicaps displayed, are signed and countersigned before being returned into the competitions box in the male locker room.
In order to minimise the loss of days etc the M & H Committee reserve the right to alter the order of play, position of pins and tees etc as is necessary at any time during the competition.

MATCHPLAY STAGE
The draw for the “Matchplay” rounds will take place in the Manchester Bar following play on Saturday 24th February 2018.

The matchplay stage will be played as “Foursomes” The number of rounds, Handicap Allowance and “play by” dates will be posted at a future date.

WEEKLY PRIZES
Each week there will be 3 Nett prizes – the three pairs will have future scores decreased by 3, 2 & 1 points respectively. This will only affect their scores for weekly prizes.

PAIRS PRIZES
There will be prize awards for the top positions at the end of the qualifying period.

There will be prizes in the match play stage for:- 2nd round losers, ¼ Final losers, Semi Final losers, Runners Up, Winners
